It doesn't appear that you re-ran CheckSUR as the date is still from the 26th.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi Brian,

I suspected I was to re-run SURT, but as it was not explicity instructed, I figured I'd wait for confirmation.

CheckSUR log attached.

Best Regards,
- Ian

Please do the following and then run CheckSUR again and post the log.

It was stated but maybe you just missed it. No biggie. OK, this should have been an easy straightforward fix. Please do the following.

FRST Registry Search
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Copy and paste
Package_104_for_KB2982378~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
Search.JPG

4. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please copy and paste the contents in your next reply. If for some reason notepad doesn't open the file should be
saved on your desktop named Search.txt.

Hi Brian,

Here's the FRST64 search

Thanks so much for your help!

After installing SP1 and about 140 updates, I am back to updates failing
These failed
3006137
3061518
3055642
3019978
3032323
3051768
3033929

There are still more updates that I haven't tried

I had previously checked some these updates by trying to install the msu directly. Sometimes they fail and sometimes they say 'Not Applicable to you system'

I still have the problem with ie11 refusing to save a downloaded file. Removing all A/V did not help. ie11 has been reset to default, uninstalled, reinstalled
At least now it does not crash after refusing to save, so that's some progress. Somehow when it reinstalled, I got a 'Developer' version which has confused the missus a bit.

Advice other than abandon WinDont and use Linux :noidea:
At this point it would be easier to teach the missus Linux than futz w MS

Just want to confirm that after those 7 updates showed failed that you rebooted, went back to Windows Updates, checked for updates and tried to install again. It's not uncommon for updates to fail when doing a whole bunch at once. Many times if you reboot and go back to Windows Updates and try again, they work. Let me know and we will go from there.

Hi Brian,

I didn't try the failed updates as I still had the ie11 download issue.
After trying myriad non-solutions, I finally gave up and created a new user profile to test ie11 download.
As that worked, I proceeded to
  1. install updates numbered prior to the first failed
  2. once all the prior updates were installed, I downloaded the .msu files from Microsoft Update Catalog for the all failed updates
  3. I installed all the optional updates
  4. one by one I installed the msu's, rebooting, checking Windows Update and installing any updates numbered below the next failed msu
  5. a long day later, the last update installed
  6. 4 new updates appeared today AND SUCCEEDED  so it looks like it all worked

Thanks so much for all the effort. Hopefully I can pass it along

Hello Brian,

Correct. I created a new profile. That solved the ie11 download problem. All updates installed. Configured new profile to match old. Disabled old profile. So far so good.

Thanks again!
