4k content on non 4k Graphics card and Display

Not sure if this is the correct section. I'm just wondering, how my GTX 660 can play 4K content on Youtube, with only slight audio issues. The more I watch 4k Content, the more I want a 4k Monitor and Graphics card. I always assumed you couldn't tell the difference on a screen smaller than 40 inch, but I was wrong. Even on my 27 Samsung Monitor, I can easily tell the difference. Everything is so crisp and sharp. It's amazing.

What difference is there from a 4k Monitor of the same size, vs a normal Monitor running @ HD Resolution, with either running on a Video card, that supports 4k ? I'm guessing you are not seeing the full potential of 4k, on non 4k monitor ?
 
If you don't have a 4K monitor, you can't see 4K, regardless of the resolution you set it to.

Most modern cards will be able to run 4K video no problem, for gaming, you'll have to look into 1070 Ti/1080 or higher.
 
I don't believe my graphic card does. It's about 5 years old. When I change the quality to 4k on you tube, what am I seeing ? If not 4k ? Looks much nicer than the standard HD resolution.
 
Youtube offers everything as people around the world use it and Japan is slowly moving towards 8k.

After seeing all of this, I can confirm that you are seeing only 1080p and nothing more. You can play whatever you want, but that will only be more taxing for your internet speed and hardware as 4K is very taxing for CPUs. On my old i7 2600K, the usage used to climb past 70+ per cent.
 
Then why is there such a difference in qaulity from the YouTube Setting of 1080p and the setting for 4k ? Also, if that isn't even true 4k. Then is there really a difference from true 1080p vs 4k on say a 55 inch screen ?
 
Yes, there is a massive difference on a 4K screen due to the number of pixels and the level of detail. The only other thing I can think of is that your screen is not 1080p. I am using a 40'' 4K monitor for everything and it's crystal clear.
 
I take back what I said. I watched a few seconds of a some more 4k content clips on You Tube, and after looking at it more closely, the difference is there. It just seems more crisp, or sharper. I think this similar to the effect of looking at a picture on a cell phone screen vs, a regular screen.
