[SOLVED] 2023-12 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems (KB5033371)

Trouble installing KB5033371, it will sit at 20% for hours and then fail with error 0x800f0983.

I have ran the following 3 times are rebooted to no avail.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
sfc /scannow
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /SPSuperseded
chkdsk c: /sdcleanup /offlinescanandfix


SFCFIX is crashing when I run it.
I have uninstalled the AV and tried again and still SFCFIX has crashed.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.

Thank you that seemed to fix dism ran without error but when I try to install windows server backup it fails I have attached the cbs.log with the errors:

Failed to process single phase execution. [HRESULT = 0x800f081f - CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING]
WER: Generating failure report for package: Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.17763.1, status: 0x800f081f, failure source: Stage, start state: Installed, target state: Installed, client id: DISM Package Manager Provider
Not able to query DisableWerReporting flag. Assuming not set... [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

  • Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Files button.

  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that Search.txt is saved in the same folder FRST was started from.

Please do the following to look at the PackageIndex key.

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Afterwards reboot the server and attempt to install the Windows Backup Feature. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Please try to install the Windows Backup feature again with Process Monitor running.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try to install the Windows Backup feature.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the square (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.



4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free and provide the link.
6. Attach also a new copy of the CBS logs for the time stamps.

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
