[SOLVED] 2023-10 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (KB5031361) failing Error 0x800f0985

Hello Maxstar,

The server had new lots of updates for this month and it crashed during the installation of one of the Intel driver update, after that it rebooted and all the intel updates seems to be installed, but the dreaded Cumulative for October, would not install again, tried multiple reboots, SFC/SCAN now DISM, SFC found a problem initially, but fixed it after reboot and DISM passes.

Here is my CBS logs and components attached.

Export SBS (SideBySide) hive

• Click on the Start button and type regedit
• When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
• When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
  

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

• Once selected, click File > Export....
• Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).
  
  
  
  
  
• Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
• Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
• Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
• If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

The SFCFix passed, see the attached log, I triggered the update just after I applied the fix and it is stuck for 1 hour now like this:



Do I wait more or reboot and try again? Usually its much quicker. I think I give it another hour max and then reboot.
