Hi,

I have a similar problem compared to some other users on the forum, but since I cannot reply to these threads, I'm creating a new one.

Here's my COMPONENTS file:

COMPONENTS.zip

I've already tried removing and reinstalling all languages, without success. A Windows reset/reinstall is not an option, I'm afraid...

Thanks a lot for looking into this!

Hello and welcome!

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

How do you define the difference between upgrading and updating? I'm only aware of the "Check for updates" functionality in Windows, which sometimes installs minor patches and once or twice per year a big one...

You get updates on every second Tuesday of the month. Upgrades are much rarer and come in cycles, 1903 and the 1909 which will be released very soon.

I asked if you wanted to try upgrading as I feel it may speed up the process and be beneficial for you.

You would not lose anything as we would not be reinstalling the OS, but upgrading it to a new version.

Sure, no problem to upgrade, but since Windows Update did not suggest an upgrade, I thought I was already at the latest available version. I'd like to steer clear of the bleeding edge 1909 though.

Okay.

Let's try:

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We couldn't install Windows 10
We've set your PC back to the way it was just before you started installing Windows 10

0x8007001F - 0x20006
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during REPLICATE_OC operation

Good point. Here all the files with that name that were modified today (although some of them were probably last modified before I started the update)

logs.zip

- No antivirus, I only have Windows defender
- I removed my audiodrivers
- Restarted windows update service
- sfc found no errors. (dism could not proceed due to lack of installation media, this is a preinstalled Surface 6)
- performed a clean boot
- (did not create a new user account)

Same error message after in-place upgrade, I'm afraid...
