Hi All

Firstly, my apologies in advance for being a technical innocent. I am very much a user and do not have great IT technical skills.

I have just got a refurbished laptop.

I am trying to get up to speed with the Windows updates but have got stuck with two of them, which fail to install repeatedly.

These updates are:

(a) 2018-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4284826)

Download size: 222.6 MB

and

(b) 2018-06 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4284842)

Download size: 228.1 MB
______________

Both of these have failed repeatedly with the following message:

"Error(s) found: Code 8024200D Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I have tried to install them separately. I have checked for internet stability (no problem). I have followed all of the instructions on the sysnative.com windows update page.

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/4736-windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.html

No matter what I try, the updates fail with the same error code.

I have copied the CBS files as requested but the folder is 498MB. (Even zipped it is 114MB) I am not sure that anyone wants to be bombarded with all of that so I have not attached it.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Kindest Regards

Tig

Hi Softwaremaniac

Thanks for your response. I thought it might be easier to make the CBS log more "manageable" so I deleted the nearly .5 gig and then tried to install the updates again. Attached is the link to the CBS log that has emerged since then. (I hope I have done this correctly. As I mentioned, I am not technically adept by any means).

CBS

For what it is worth, I notice that every time I turn my laptop on I have a 'shut down to install updates" symbol on my shut down button. No matter how many times I do this, it does not seem to want to disappear.

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide that will help you to conduct your investigations and (hopefully) find a solution.

Again, thanks in advance for your attention to this problem.

Kindest Regards

Tig

Hello and welcome! Please do upload the zipped CBS folder somewhere and post the link here.

Thank you. I see the issue. Let's try the easy way of gathering info.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
 5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi

I think I have done this all correctly. The SFCFix report is below.

Please let me know if I can do anything else.
