[SOLVED] [10v1709b16299 x64] WU error 0x80070246, Dism error 582: An illegal character

Hello! Hope you can help.

I've recently restored my system from a successfully completed backup (Acronis True Image).

However, windows updates won't install, and all the troubleshooters are broken - error 0x8002801D

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth give an error:

An illegal character was encountered. For a multi-byte character set this includes a lead byte without a succeeding trail byte. For the Unicode character set this includes the characters 0xFFFF and 0xFFFE.

Thanks Brian, I managed to fix the problem with an in place reinstall of Windows - which saved my registry...

Hopefully I'm good to go for now.
