Hi there!

I've been having problems when attempting to update with the Windows 10 anniversary version (from Windows 10). The error code that appears is 0x800705aa. After Googling for 2 weeks now, I came to this site hoping for a solution :)
I followed the steps from the sticky post so you can see the SBC and SFCfix logs attached.
Please let me know if you also need the COMPONENTS hive file.

Any help is appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Marlous

Re: COMPONENTS hive registery may be corrupted

Please start with the following so I can gather more info.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Please do the following so I can gather more info.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

The log appeared to be in the language I use on my computer: Dutch. I hope that is OK.

If I'm reading this correctly, it shows your DEFAULT hive with a size of 1,800KB (1.8MB) which is extremely small. Can you confirm?

Let's try setting the registry size limit to the maximum value.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/124594

Manually set the RSL:

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).
Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control.
Modify the value RegistrySizeLimit (create it first it if it does not already exist) to reflect the desired size, in terms of bytes.
RegistrySizeLimit must have a type of REG_DWORD, and a data length of 4 bytes, or it is ignored. Set it to 0xffffffff (the maximum size allowable).
Restart the computer for changes in RSL to take effect.

OK, please do the following to update to the most recent build of Windows 10.

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Keep the default Upgrade this PC option and click Next.
4. Let this process complete the upgrade to the newest build and let me know when complete.

It seems like the MCT is starting the upgrade over and over again. Is this something that can be expected?

I started the MCT. It asked me to agree to the license agreement, then it started looking for downloads, downloading the upgrade etc. After that, it asked again for agreement to the licence agreement, looking for downloads etc. I think it is now in its 3rd loop.

Yes, that is normal (if I'm understanding you correctly). It downloads the update and then asks if you wish to check for updates (before applying the update) and then it applies the update.
