Hi guys! Ive been trying to update W10 from v1511 to v1709 for a while now, but every time I get an error: Windows 10 installation has failed. Ive tried various ways and various methods on the internet, but to no avail. Ive tried reading update logs but they are unreadable and symbol server installation doesnt work.

From what I can recall I also get this error: 0x8007001f. Sometimes that error shows, sometimes it just says the installation failed, and no error code is shown.

I have attached a chkdskresult.txt file from performing chkdsk /f /x /r and using ListChkdskResult.exe.

I would really appreciate any help since I really dont know what else to do, and I would really find it extremely daunting and challenging to have to format just because of this.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Hello Softwaremaniac, I apologise I didn't see that post. I will go through those steps and post the results.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Uploaded CBS file: CBS.zip

The SFCFix software found no integrity violations, no corruptions detected.

Thanks for the assistance!

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Softwaremaniac, I apologise, yesterday for some reason sfc/scannow mentioned I did have corrupted files and then I had to leave so I didnt continue till today. Assuming that, I skipped step 3, and today SFCFix said I had no corrupted files and then I posted this. Now that I re-run sfc /scannow I get no integrity violations, as sfcfix mentioned, so I dont know what happened yesterday that I did have corrupted files.

Anyway, here is the attached CBS.log:

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Thank you, I have already downloaded the iso and applied it to a USB to be able to reinstall it without delay, as you have stated.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Then try the upgrade again and note at what exact point (after which reboot/prior to reboot) does the upgrade fail. Thank you.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

It happens at 17%, tried it two times in a row and I get an "Windows 10 installation has failed" at that point

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Please zip and attach C:\Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log and SetupErr.log.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Please temporarily completely remove your Antivirus product by using its removal tool and then try upgrading again, also disconnect all nonessential hardware from the computer (USB devices, additional sound/wifi cards) and such...

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

I had uninstalled the antivirus for this so I dont have one, except for Windows Defender. Apart from the USB devices, do I remove the sound blaster card being used inside the pc?

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Tried running it again after that but no luck

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Do you have enough free space on your C: drive? Do you have multiple partitions?

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

My C: drive currently has 17gb free of 118gb and the partitions I see for that disk are System Reserved 350mb, C: 118gb and another 450mb recovery partition. I do have other disks and only another one is partitioned

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

I would advise you to try and clear up some space on your C: drive.
Do your System Reserved Partition and Recovery Partition have any space left? (Provide Disk Management screenshot).

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Ok thank you will try freeing up some space! I have attached a picture
