I'm not looking to convert anyone But on most of the tech forums, it seems Opera is much more popular amongst users then in the "general population".

I have been using Opera since it became a free browser. I was using IE, and occasionally FF (I just never had a reason to have so many extensions to do this and that. I'm a simple Guy ) Opera is good looking, fast, never gives me any problems, doesn't require jumping through hoops when it updates to keep everything working. I tried Chrome, but it just far to plain for my taste. Ultimately, I use Opera because it works for me.

That is the best reason for selecting a particular browser (or other software program)!

My new favorite browser is IE 10... It is tied with Chrome, but I have enjoyed using it (desktop version) in Windows 8 and now Windows 7...

Oh I should mention: I enjoy Chromium a lot, though Chrome is a little more robust and fleshed out, Chromium is a great alternative.

I generally use Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera mainly different ones for different OSes and purposes, but where needed I have also used IE, Safari or Ice Weasel.

Re: Which Browser Is Most Popular at Sysnative?

Chrome is alright, and Opera is good too. Firefox is a bit of a hog, especially with lots of add-ons, although it performs adequately as well. I've moved to all Windows 8 machines, and having the IE settings, history, and other settings sync along with very good font scaling at higher DPI and the speed increases over even IE9, it's become my daily driver. I still like Chrome, and it still feels faster than IE on pages with heavy javascript, but I don't find I use such pages very often anymore. Also, the sandboxing of IE (and to be fair, Chrome runs low IL too) on Vista and higher machines, as well as using ASLR on load and code injection during script compile and add-on runtime to detect overflows and other common attack vectors makes it a fair bit more secure on the system than a browser that doesn't use these technologies, so that's a plus as well. Again, it's what works for me, so that is why I use it - performance and security win out for me over functionality (aka add-ons), as I just don't find I need them much anymore.

Re: Which Browser Is Most Popular at Sysnative?

I still use FF, but have tried using Chrome and IE for periods of time.

I have nothing against IE, and I don't think it's bad at all, but I prefer the flexibility and customisation of FF. For a period of time I used Chrome but it is a memory hog. I usually have around 20 tabs open, not masses, but it's still a few, and chrome was eating up RAM. I only have 6GB of RAM on this machine, and I multi-task heavily, so RAM usage is always an issue, especially with VMs as well. Doing some testing showed Chrome was using ~700MB of my RAM with only about 10 tabs open. FF was sitting on about 400MB with the same amount.

This is just my very quick testing, so take it with a pinch of salt. But other sites have reported the same thing --> Browser Speed Tests: Chrome 24, Firefox 18, Internet Explorer 10, and Opera 12.12 for example

However, FF is not perfect. It's not as fast and not as stable. But it's OK for me and that's all that really matters. :)

    Stephen

P.S - My FF has a Google Chrome theme on it ;-)

Re: Which Browser Is Most Popular at Sysnative?

It's a tough one now that IE10 came out. I really enjoy the improvements that have been released along with Firefox. Their dev team does a really good job in my opinion keeping things up to date and secure. I think it's important to note that they were the first ones with patches against a few exploits that affected multiple browsers not too long ago, and the browser was also one of the only ones that was protected against a recent HTML5 data storage "bug". I would use IE as my main browser, but I have made it a routine to be using some of the Firefox addon's that I have, and no other browser has addons that can compete unfortunately. Firefox is still #1 when it comes down to extensibility. Opera did well on the security side of things for a while, but I haven't kept tabs on them for a bit, so I don't know how they would all compare at this point in time. There's a few idiosyncrasies though in Opera and Chrome that I do and don't like, along with IE and the download popup that can't be disabled as far as I know.

Chrome is the only one that can drag and drop shortcuts from active links, which I do like, in case I don't want to bookmark... But IE seems to provide a much smoother browsing session on a few things, so I also like IE for a few minor things.

I switch around from time to time though.

Re: Which Browser Is Most Popular at Sysnative?

I used to be a long-time user of Opera, but I started having issues with crashing. They're a much smaller team, and can't patch as quickly as Mozilla or Google. This might have changed now, but Chrome and FF had overtaken Opera in terms of security and sand-boxing when I switched to Chrome.

Been using Chrome for the last year or so - very fast. I've tried IE10, but it just doesn't compare speed or feature wise. It's a huge improvement over previous IE versions, but I only ever use it for compatibility checking/maintenance stuff on Sysnative + various websites. It's useful to have a browser where I'm not logged into anything, without any plugins, just to see what sites look like for everyone else.

I would be tempted to try FF again, might switch over again soon. I used FF 1.5 and 2 for a long time, before switching over to Opera.

Firefox 22, I used to be a Opera fan, but since the update to Opera 15 to resolve the frequent crashes with Opera 12, Opera is slow and sluggish and doesn't even have a bookmarks bar.

I didn't realise Opera 15 had been released yet - just downloaded it. It's worth noting that Opera 15 is the first Opera browser to now use Chrome's WebKit engine. At the moment, it's been described as a crippled Chrome. I've not seen it described as slow before - Chrome's engine is the fastest browser rendering engine at present. (I think, may have changed since I last checked).

It just didn't seem as smooth as Firefox, and I was looking for the new WebKit engine with Opera, but now I'm staying with Firefox.
