Restart your computer to finish installing important updates--never ending loop

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running windows 7. It is constantly displaying a message that I need to "restart my computer to finish installing important updates". No matter how many times i restart, it comes right back. I have tried numerous things on my own and it still won't go away...
