[SOLVED] Cannot install W7 cumulative updates

No, because: 1) I did a repair install, which "fixed" the problem (although it created a similar problem with another update; that one was fixed by manually installing the update) 2) I've now abandoned W7 in favor of W10.

As when I tried the same thing before, there is no difference with a clean boot. The System Readiness Tool still produces the same results as detailed in my Friday 4:12 message, and fails to install. :-(
