Unable to install updates Windows 11 22h2 - 0x800f081f

Hi guys,

I have a problem with Windows Updates. I´m pretty sure the Windows Components are corrupt and I´m not having any success with the usual DISM and SFC commands.

The dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth throws up the error:

Error: 0x800f081f The source files could not be found

This happens even when I try to use the ISO and the Install.wim.

sfc /scannow says that i have damaged files but cannot be repaired. I have attached the log files for CBS, DISM and Components Scanner.

Many thanks, in anticipation.

David

To add that it doesn’t appear that there is a problem with the components hive. I feel like I’ve tried everything. This is a deploy from an MDT image so several machines have the same problem. Would be very grateful to anyone who can help.

Cheers

David

Hi,

Please post all the previous CBS logs as well as a copy of the Components Based Servicing hive.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Please run the following DISM command again and attach a new copy of the CBS logs.
