[Server2012R2Upd3 x64] WU error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Hi Guys! I wonder if anyone can help with this:

Server 2012 R2Standard. Very few Windows updates willinstall currently. The most common erroris [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT] - no amount ofDISM repairing will fix it. SometimesI'm also getting [HRESULT = 0x800f081f - CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING]. Some updates will load (typically .NETframework updates and the Malicious Software removal tool) but there's a listof 3 updates that won’t load - this list always includes the current monthlyrollup. The others that it currentlywants to install are KB3138602 and KB3172614. Both of these are old and I have no idea why they weren't installedpreviously.

The update I'mcurrently trying to load is the 2017-10 Security Monthly Quality Rollup(KB4041693).

As per foruminstructions - these were all completed today (19th October 2017):

SFC /scannow - runsclean
Dism /Online/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - "The component store corruption wasrepaired. The operation completed successfully."
SFCfix - Nocorruptions detected.
Tried to installKB4041693 - Download stuck at 5% so stopped download
Ran Dism /Online/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth again - same result as before.
Re-trying KB4041693- Now get the usual 80073712 error.

CBS logs at WeTransfer

Would be most grateful for any help!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. Are you still in need of assistance?

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Try the monthly rollup again and provide the CBS.log if it fails. Thanks.

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Hi,

Tried KB4041693 again. It wouldn't download from Control Panel/Windows Updates - just sat at 0%.

I downloaded it manually from the Microsoft Catalog and it downloaded and ran ok - but failed to install.

If after checking for updates, this updates still appears as needing installed then yes please attempt to install it. If it fails, please zip/attach the current CBS.log.

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Hi,

Have tried that:

  • Download stalled at 5% complete
  • Tried installing from the downloaded standalone installer. Stalled at "Copying packages to the Windows Update cache".
  • Killed the Standalone updater and the WU service.
  • Ran the standalone updater again - got much further and actually tried to install, but failed

CBS log: WeTransfer

Thanks,

Simon

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Please do the following.

FRST Scan
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Thank you. In order for us to troubleshoot further we are going to need to completely uninstall the Antivirus from this server. We can re-install it once the issue is resolved. Please let me know if this is a possibility.

Re: Server 2012 R2 - Windows Update error 80073712 (Store Corruption)

Sure, I have no problem with that. It's an OEM version of BitDefender. I've requested it to uninstall now. If it asks for a reboot I'll have to schedule that overnight.

EDIT: Yes, it needs a reboot to completely uninstall. Scheduled for 05:30 GMT tomorrow morning.
