  • Write a brief description of your problem. - Audio popping/crackling on new Ryzen machine. Happens randomly, and can be reproduced by simply muting/unmuting a video on Youtube.

  • You can also include the steps you tried. -Many things: Removing the Realtek driver in my Device Manager, changing voltages on my CPU, removing my headphones from the setup + DAC (Fiio E10K), Trying all the newest updates for my BIOS, Updated my chipset and GPU driver (several new editions of the GPU driver). Worth noting, that if I grab a trace log while booted into Safe Mode, the DPC is low - Don't know if it's relevant.

  • OS ? (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista) -WINDOWS 10 PRO Version 20H2, OS build 19042.789

  • x86 (32bit) or x64 (64bit)? -64-bit

  • What was original installed OS on system? -Windows 10 (October 2020 ISO on MS site)

  • Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? -Full retail version.

  • Age of system? (hardware) -Brand new out of the box. In terms of release, all things should be 2019+.

  • Age of OS installation? -Newest

  • Have you re-installed the OS? -Yes, problem still persisted on clean OS-install.

  • System Manufacturer? -Custom build.

  • Laptop or Desktop? -Desktop

  • Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) -N/A

  • MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop) -MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk, BIOS-version 7C91vA5 (newest)

  • CPU -AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, Chipset driver 2.13.27.501 (newest driver)

  • RAM (brand, EXACT model, what slots are you using?) -DDR4 32GB PC 3600 CL16 G.Skill KIT (2x16GB) 32GVKC Ripjaws (F4-3600C16D-32GVKC) (In slot #2 and #4)

  • Video Card -PowerColor Radeon 6800 XT Red Devil Limited Edition

  • Power Supply - brand & wattage (if laptop, skip this one) -Corsair RM850i, 850W PSU

  • Is driver verifier enabled or disabled? -I have never touched it.

  • What security software are you using? (Firewall, antivirus, antimalware, antispyware, and so forth) -Only Windows firewall

  • Are you using proxy, vpn, ipfilters or similar software? -No.

  • Are you using Disk Image tools? (like daemon tools, alcohol 52% or 120%, virtual CloneDrive, roxio software) -No.

  • Are you currently under/overclocking? Are there overclocking software installed on your system? -Tried tinkering a little with CPU voltages, But I am running stock setup as of now (With A-XMP profile 1).

So, after tinkering around today, I found out that disabling my network adapters in the device manager puts my latency at a stable 5-30. However, the popping does not disappear. I still get issues with wdf0l1000, dxgkrnl and ntoskrnl (with dxgkrnl having the highest execution time).
 
Well it's not really a solution if you cannot access the internet on your PC, im in the exact same boat as you, External AMP/DAC and New Ryzen Build.
 
I know this is old but if anyone comes across this while having this issue, I completely solved this exact issue for myself by downgrading my PCIe generation in the GPU slot from 3 to 2 in the BIOS. I have also read posts from people saying they solved their issue by downgrading from PCIe gen 4 to 3 the same way. In both cases the problem is solved by forcing your motherboard to utilize one generation of PCIe lower than it was built for on the GPU slot. The only downside to this solution is if your GPU genuinely needs the extra bandwidth it gets from using its native PCIe protocol. I am lucky enough to be running a 1050 Ti in PCIe Gen 3 x16, and there are no performance decreases at all when forcing that card into Gen 2 because it doesn't even utilize the extra bandwidth that gen 3 provides. Your GPU may be different, of course. Just look up if it can run well at one PCIe Gen lower than native. As of right now this solution is working flawlessly for me, seriously ZERO audio artifacts. Something must be up with AMD chipsets interacting with PCIe or something... idk. I hope this helps someone. I went through about 15 hours of troubleshooting after a CPU upgrade to find this solution. I'm running a Ryzen 7 5700G with a 1050 Ti on an MSI B450 motherboard. 16 gigs ram if that matters. Prior to the problem my CPU was a Ryzen 3 2200G with all the rest of the hardware the same. The problem only started upon CPU upgrade, although it's worth noting that in order to upgrade the CPU, I needed to update my BIOS to a newer version, so it's either a CPU issue or a scuffed BIOS. I'm betting on the BIOS. Cheers!
 
Ottosfa thank you for your reply. I am facing the same issue and my specs are almost the same as yours. I cannot find the setting you describe in the BIOS advanced settings can you provide a walkthrough?

Select Advanced mode, click settings (on the left), click advanced (central list), click PCI subsystem settings, then:
- change PCI_E1 gen switch from auto to gen4
- change chipset gen switch from auto to gen3
- save BIOS settings and exit.

If this won't work, try gen3 instead of gen4 (in PCI_E1 gen switch).
If this still won't work, try gen2 instead of gen3.
 
Hi sorry I have a different mainboard. I have an ASUS PRIME B450MA-II board with a Ryzen 5 5600G. Having the same issues with audio crackling no matter what I do.

I've checked other models...
Hence I'm not totally sure about the following settings.
You can always send pictures of your bios advanced settings, by the way!)))

Select Advanced mode, click settings (on the left), click advanced (central list), click onboard devices settings, then change PCIEX16 from auto to gen4.
If this won't work, try gen3 instead of gen4.
If this still won't work, try gen2 instead of gen3.

Using Command Center, I set my VDD_SoC volatage to 1.1. It was previously at 0.8.
Seems like the popping has completely disappeared.
Guess I'll make the change directly in BIOS, next reboot.
