Windows Vista business 32bit SP2 will not install

I read a thread Online and it looks like the same problem, so i am seeking help here. thank you for the site.

I am trying to install sp2 on a windows vista business 32bit machine. I have run fix it and the checkSUR as well as the system file checker. I get 4 error entries in the checkSUR log and they are all "Identity and Keyform do not match; keyform is wrong". my research has taken me to the windows registry where i understand there is probably some junk in each one of the entries. i have opened the registry looked around at the keys, but i do not know exactly what i am to be looking for. Attached is the Checksur.log file with the 4 entries. I enjoy working in issues such as this. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hello Harry, and welcome to Sysnative :)

Thank you very much for uploading that logfile. It helps immensely to see straight off what I am dealing with.

I may be required to send you quite advanced instructions during this fix. If at any time you do not completely understand something I have posted, or how to complete a task, please just stop and ask. I am always more than willing to provide further explanations or alternative methods, so please always just stop and ask if you are not 100% clear on something :)

Questions of any sort are always encouraged.

I would like to collect some more data before I begin the fix. To do this, please:

Click Start > Search for regedit > right click on regedit.exe > select Run as Administrator

Then go to the File menu in the top left hand corner of the window > Export... > put the dot in Selected Branch, and fill the text box with:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\Components

Give it a sensible name and save it somewhere you can easily find > Save

If you get any errors (such as "The selected branch does not exist. Make sure that the correct path is given."), please just let me know.

Finally, please navigate to the exported .reg file, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new .zip file here, just as you did with the CheckSUR.log in your first post.

    Thank you :)

    Richard

    Hello Harry,

This is just a quick message to reassure you that you have not been forgotten.

Although it is extremely rare for this to be necessary, I need to create and update match a virtual pc in order to fix your computer. I am currently waiting for SP2 to download frustratingly slowly.

I should have a proper reply for you tomorrow.

Thank you very much for your continued patience,

    Richard

Every Windows Update problem is slightly different, and usually I have never seen exactly the same thing before. But I also managed to resolve most cases. Sometimes it just takes a bit of digging and trial and error on virtual machines beforehand in order to solve a particular case. I appreciate your patience, as I have now worked out an initial plan of attack. I actually think I may now have a fix! Let's give it a whirl.

Please download the attached .zip file, extract and import the contained .reg file, re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and post me a new CheckSUR.persist.log.

    Thank you very much,

    Richard

Re: Windows Vista business 32bit SP2 will not install

    Richard,

I went ahead and ran Windows Vista SP2 and it installed just fine. Thank you for you help. Now I am curious? Were the issues that came up in the windows update tool non critical to the SP2 and you found issues in the Registry dump you had me make? or were you able to change the significance of the errors so that SP2 would not see them as critical anymore and thus proceed with the install of the service pack? Or was it something else you saw??

this forum is awesome! i really appreciat the help.
