I don't think MiniTool has proper logs (correct me if I'm wrong) but I attached a screen shot of what I was talking about in the history page in case useful. Logs from FRST also attached. Yes, you would need to actually uninstall it using its removal tool, not disable as it is integrated deep into the kernel of the OS. Also, please go to C:\Windows\Minidump, copy the folder to the Desktop, zip it up and attach it in your next reply. I am suspecting a third-party interference is in play here.

When I rebuilt the server from the last time it worked fine out of the and I paid attention whenever I installed a new program seeing if something caused it but it all worked fine. Imagine my surprise when I went to add a role a week later and the issue was back. At first it only impacted adding/removing roles and Windows Update still worked fine. It was only when this last major update came out that I started having trouble installing it. The update which keeps failing must touch the same part of the system which causes add/removing roles to fail. In any event...I uninstalled SEP and also did a clean boot but got the same update error message. I've attached the minidump folder here. Attachments Minidump.zip 371.2 KB · Views: 1

No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it. Save any open documents and close all open windows. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it. SFCFix will now process the script. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text. Attach EvtLogs.zip that will be created on your Desktop. Attachments SFCFixScript.txt 168 bytes · Views: 4

It is located under Startup and Recovery which can be accessed by right-clicking This PC and selecting Properties and then Advanced System Settings.

I suspect you'll be stuck in a BSOD state. Please note down the cause of it or take a screenshot. Then manually reboot and let me know what the cause was.

So I unchecked the automatic restart and tried the update and it failed again but no BSOD.

Good catch on the unknown device as I hadn't seen that. The HWID was for an OpenVPN driver (tapoas) so I went ahead and uninstalled it.
