So my desktop has stopped being able to get internet access through the wifi that every other device accesses. I use a USB adapter. I bought a new adapter to see if that was the problem, but same effect. I can connect to the router, but no access. When I tether an old phone that is connected to the router, I can get access, but only when the adapter is also plugged into the tower.
