Already did that: (from my very first post)

"*** I just uninstalled McAfee Total Protection, rebooted, ran the McAfee Removal Tool, then rebooted"

I have not reinstalled McAfee nor another A/V.

Can you please create a new user account called Test, give it admin privileges and see if it makes a difference.
If I haven't replied to your thread within 48 hours, please send me a Personal Message.

Re: KB4103718 installation hangs forever almost complete Win7

Same under Test administrator. Green bar took a few minutes to progress to almost 100%, now 45 minutes later and no change.

Before creating the Test user, I stopped the Win Update service and renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder to force it start from scratch, then rebooted and logged into the Test user.

FYI, the original user account and Test do NOT have a password, in case that makes a difference.

SeaTools for Dos v2.23 does not find the Seagate ST31000524AS 1TB drive, but it still boots to Windows!

    Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
    1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
    2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
    3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
    4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
    5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Re: KB4103718 installation hangs forever almost complete Win7

Yes, the two most recent (failed) attempts to install a monthly rollup were the June update.

I should mention in case I haven't, that other updates do install successfully: Office, Malicious Software Removal Tool, there may have been a .NET update a while back. It is just the Monthly Rollups that will not install.

    Thanks again!
