Hello everyone! For the past week I've been having trouble downloading the March updates due to error 0x80073701. I had no problems with February's or previous months updates. Running Windows 7 x64 SP1.
I've been trying various things since, but with no results or fixes I decided to finally ask for help to see if there is anything else I could do. I've heard good thing about this forum, so I thought this would be a good place to start. At the start, I only had problems with three updates, but a new one was put out a couple days ago and I had the same problem. The updates I'm having problems with are:
KB4088875
KB4091290
KB2952664 (installed updates show I already have this download, but I'm unable to uninstall it to try and install this one)
KB4088881
I also had two additional optional updates, Microsoft Silverlight and Skype, that I had no reason to download before. However, just to test things I downloaded them and both of them installed fine without any problems, so it looks like it's just the four updates I listed above. For now anyways.
Some things I have tried that were mentioned from various people on the Microsoft and other forums include changing the name of the distribution folder so windows would make a new one and also trying the MicrosoftEasyFix50202 tool. I also tried doing a system restore to before I tried downloading the updates, but that also didn't seem to work.
I also ran an SFC scan which said it did not find any integrity violations. I also ran it again just now before posting this so it was up to date.
I also ran the SURT tool (I just did it again just before posting so it was up to date as well). When I first did the scan it came up with having 568 errors... somehow. I downloaded most of the msu files I could from the Microsoft Update Catalog and put them in the specific folder. I ran the scan again and found that it fixed 490 errors. After that I learned that I could copy the specific files directly from another computer, so I pulled out my old laptop and copied over the remaining files. I ran the SURT again, and all remaining problems except relating to one issue was fixed.
For some reason SURT refuses to fix everything related to KB3172605. I tried downloading the msu from Microsoft as well as copying the files directly over from my laptop, but it still won't repair them. That leaves 22 errors remaining.
And finally, I also ran the Update troubleshooter. It came back saying there was a windows update error 0x80070490.
I also did the SFCfix as requested and this was the result:
