    Re: [7SP1 x64] WU & Blank Windows Features On/Off

    Hi,

    Lets try to fix the existing IE first...

    Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable
    • extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
    • execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
    • click the button Jump To Repairs
    • click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    • click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the box's
    • check only the following box's:
      • 07 - Repair Internet Explorer
    • check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
    • click the Start Repairs button

    That didn't seem to fix anything, unfortunately, still showing the same issues...

    "An error has occured. Not all of the features were successfully changed."

    Then I click OK, and it asks me to restart my system, and when I got back in it is still checked.

    Hi,

    If you open Start, search for Internet Explorer (64-bit) and execute this version the result is the same?

    Looks like I don't have the 64-bit executable available.

    Hi,

    Can you confirm that iexplore.exe exists on C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and try to run it from there.

    Yes, it does exist there, when I run the executable there it still has the same problem -- no menu buttons or options at all, and it won't even close with the Windows X, I have to kill the process manually.

    The result is the same if you right-click on the iexplore.exe file and select Run as Administrator?

    Hi,

    This doesn't look good... Do you have the Windows 7 install DVD?

    Please start Windows 7 in Safe Mode How to Start Windows 7 in Safe Mode [Easy, 5 Minutes]

    Nope...nothing changed. I can't believe there wouldn't be a way to repair IE without reinstalling windows...(It's Enterprise edition from my company and I don't know how hard it would be to get the installation media...)

    Re: [7SP1 x64] WU & Blank Windows Features On/Off

    Yes repairing IE can be complicated!

    Try to install IE 11 but before starting the install execute the following:

    Farbar Recovery Scan Fix
    • Download FRST or FRST x64 and save it to the Desktop.
      (Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, try FRST if it say that is not compatible with your OS you have to use FRST64
    • Highlight the contents of the box below, right click on it and select Copy
      Start::
      unlock: c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll
      Move: c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll.old
      end::
    • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
    • Press the Fix button just once and Wait
    • The tool will make a log (Fixlog.txt) on the same location as FRST/FRST64 please post it in your next reply.

    After the fix try to install Internet Explorer 11 and report the result.

    Re: [7SP1 x64] WU & Blank Windows Features On/Off

    Unfortunately after the fix the installer still says there is a more recent version installed.

    Contents of Fixlog.txt:

    Fix result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x64) Version: 11.03.2018 01
    Ran by clousej (12-03-2018 07:59:43) Run:1
    Running from C:\Users\clousej\Desktop
    Loaded Profiles: clousej (Available Profiles: daughtridgej.a & evansh & clousej & boltj & it & Administrator)
    Boot Mode: Normal
    ==============================================

    fixlist content:
    *****************
    unlock: c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll
    Move: c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll.old

    *****************

    "c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll" => was unlocked
    "c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll" moved successfully to c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll.old

    ==== End of Fixlog 07:59:43 ====

    Re: [7SP1 x64] WU & Blank Windows Features On/Off

    Hi,

    I didn't include instructions to reboot before trying to install IE 11, did some testing and it seems a reboot may be needed. Try doing that please.
