:banghead:
So, I'm working in a virtual environment where I'm able to snapshot and quickly try this over and over again.
The servers in question are both exhibiting both of the same symptoms whilst Installing SP2. System (1) is a Microsoft Server 2008 (no sp) and System (2) is running Microsoft Server 2008 SP1.
My diagnostic procedures so far have been the following:
- SFC /Scanow - No errors found
- CHKDSK /F - No errors found
- Removed c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads\*.* && c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\*.*
- Ran KB9427821-v35x64.msu - Microsoft update system readiness tool - KB947821 states it is successful and deposits CheckSUR data..
- Looked for any critical errors CheckSUR located in C:\Windows\logs\cbs - With my limited knowledge to the best of my abilities there were no critical errors in the log.
Installation of Sp2 on either machine results in the following:
- Ran Windows6.0-KB948465-X64.exe > Next > Automatic Reboot > Goes through the black screen check of files, then once the last items checked in the registry I get the following KSOD:
- !! 0xc01a001d !! 703179/103211 (\Registry\Machine\Components\Installer...)
At this point it continues to get stuck after reboots and I'm interested solely in getting these production (sad but true) servers correctly installed with SP2. I'm so desperate that I've signed up to the forums today after reading into some of your customized resolutions. You folks are my best bet by far. I'll owe y'all a beer if you can help me out of this spot.
Thanks,
Matnav
