[W8.1] PC Very Slow suddenly, here is CBS Report with "cannot repair" dialogue.
Hello, My Dell computer, running windows 8.1
has suddenly become incredibly slow. It is not quite as slow when using the internet.
However, opening files, doing searches, opening or editing word documents, browsing photographs on the actual computer- the delay is approximately a minute for each action/click.
Start up is also longer, after the password is entered. An empty screen that looks a blackish indigo colour comes up for varied times, (a few seconds or few minutes) before it loads to the main desktop.
I have very little stored on the computer harddrive. (but don't want to have to reinstall windows as will lose some software).
I have preformed Norton Eraser (Found 2 virus')
Norton virus scan (no virus)
Malwarebytes (No malware or adware)
MSert scan (Nothing)
CBS Scan (About 9 "cannot repair" reports)
All updates are up to date. (Windows and antivirus)
All virus scans came up negative bar Norton eraser for two virus'. The CBS scan has about 9 "Cannot repair" notifications. (See bellow)
I use firefox as a browser.
However I deleted it, as I thought it may be their update slowing the computer. It doesn't appear to be.
I tried Chrome browser instead, which I never use, but is dormant on the PC.
Norton eraser found 2 viruses after alerting me to "suspicious outbound traffic detected" when opening Chrome (i'm sorry i do not now know what. but they were "high risk")
Aditionally when I opened chrome browser "lifedom.top" "Fake browser extention activity " keeps trying to attack my computer, but it is always blocked by Norton. It attempts to attack about every 20 seconds.
I have deleted and reinstalled Chrome but the same thing keeps happening.
I have reverted to Firefox.
I do not know how long the virus' were on the computer as i run scans every 5 days and nothing had detected them. I had never used Norton Eraser before. "lifedom.top" appears not to have got through.
I've included all the information I can think of that may help you, to help me, speed up my computer again.
I do not know if the viruses corrupted the registry files shown on the CBS Reprt, or if they make no difference to the speed of the computer and the files were always bad.
I am not huely computer litterate. Everything will need to be step by step. Thank you hugely for your help in advance.
