    Re: [WIN10 Pro x64] Can't update past 1511 And DISM Error: 0x800f081f

Ok I downloaded FRST Scan and it just kept running like it was stuck so I rebooted when the system rebooted the windows update box popped up so I grabbed a couple KB numbers and tried doing the manual install like you mentioned above those worked, I had to reboot again from one of those updates and then I decided to just let windows update try and run overnight.

At some point the system locked up and shut down but when I got it back up this morning it booted up to a windows update running which eventually stopped with the following error

    Code:

    Something went wrong

Microsoft can't install important security updates on your PC.

Please contact Microsoft Support for help with this error.

Please provide the support representative with this error code: 0x80004005
But I did notice my windows version is now Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.1176) so something updated. My update list also shrank to just the 1703 update which is trying to download now.

Sorry to deviate from the plan I did not try FRST again yet.

Just in case cbs log attached as well cbs 11-2-17 12pm.zip

    Re: [WIN10 Pro x64] Can't update past 1511 And DISM Error: 0x800f081f

    Ok now I'm just confused.

So it shows update KB4023057 was installed when viewing update history however it also now shows it in the updates that needs to be downloaded and installed. Earlier it did not show this.

I also noticed in event viewer it shows the 1703 update installed but then the system rebooted around an hour later unexpectedly.

It almost seems like to me it downloads the update installs it then crashes and reboots to it being not installed.

    Does that make any sense??

What's the best next step to take?

And thanks for all the help so far!

update failed when I tried updating manually using the media creation tool, I did watch it and it went all the way to where it needed to restart then just popped up the box saying it failed

also for some reason the windows 10 update assistant keeps trying to download and upgrade on its own not sure how to stop it, I'm guessing it was installed when I tried to let the computer update on its own the other day

    FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
    1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. You can use the one you already have downloaded.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
    2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
    3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
    4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
    5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Well that was ~6 hours and a few gigabytes wasted, same thing shows install progress to the point it needs to reboot then fails.

I got to ~3.5Gb down and it stopped, tried to resume got a 403 error....just my luck.

I've found an alternative download location (same kind of link as yours) I'll try that but it'll be a few more hours as my internet is really slow.

    SFC Scan

    1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
    2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
    3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

      sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

      copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
    4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
