    [Win8.1Upd3 x64] WU error 800703F1

I ve tried alot of things and read alot of posts and still cannot get it to work.

I tried also Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, but no avail.

    Im getting this error :

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600](c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.3.9600.17031

    Image Version: 6.3.9600.17031

    [==========================100.0%==========================]

    Error: 1009

The configuration registry database is corrupt.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    C:\Windows\system32>

One question, does it need to access one drive? cause i "unplugged" mine, could it be why its failing?
can anyone help me please? im running out of ideas here and getting confused, i uploaded the log file in case it might help.

    Thank you !

    Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named SleepyDude. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

    Hi Symbiosis,

As Brian already told you, I will be working with you to resolve this problem and I will do my best. Because I'm in training expect some delays between replies, all my posts will be checked by an Instructor.

For now please avoid running any other fixes until we finish. We need to do more things before we can find the source of the problem, for now its impossible to say if One Drive is related. Don't worry we can use other website during the fixing process.

Warning: Please don't run fixes from others users topics because most of those fixes are created specific for that user and can create problems if executed in a different computer.

To check what is the problem we need to collect a file from your computer, please execute the following:

    Retrieve the Components Hive

    1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file
    2. Please copy the COMPONENTS file to your desktop
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again
    3. Right-click on this file on your Desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your Desktop
    4. If file will is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to www.sendspace.com and just provide the link for the file here

    Re: [Win8.1Upd3 x64] WU error 800703F1

    Hi,

I did some work in the file you provide to us and it should be corrected now so lets replace the bad one...

Step 1 - Backup the Registry
    • Please download RegBak (by AceLogix Software) and save it to the Desktop
    • Right-click on the file regbak.zip then select Extract all... to extract the files to the Desktop a new folder called regback will be created
    • open the folder regbak and Run regbak64 by double clicking the file, if it doesn't work because you have a 32-bit Windows, Run regbak instead
    • don't change any options and click Next, accept the default Settings and click Start. RegBak will backup all of your Windows Registry hives.

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...

Step 2 - Replace bad Hive
    1. Download the file components.zip and save it to the Desktop
    2. Right-click on the file components.zip then select Extract all... After extraction the folder will open containing the file COMPONENTS
    3. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config folder
    4. Inside the config folder locate the file COMPONENTS and change its name to COMPONENTS-bad
Note: If you receive a message saying the file is in use, Restart the Computer and try again from point #3
    5. copy the new COMPONENTS file obtained on point #2 to the C:\Windows\System32\config folder

After executing the steps above try Windows Update to see if it works, if not let me know of any error code presented to you.

    Re: [Win8.1Upd3 x64] WU error 800703F1

    Good.

It was a problem in one Registry part that is stored on that COMPONENTS file.

    Any other issues?

    Any other issues?

Thank you so much for your help.

Well i actually have another problem with one of my hard drives. I dont know if you could help me with that.

Basicaly im trying to copy a small file to my drive and a pop up error message shows up : File Too Large. The file '<%1 NULL:NameDest>' is too large for the destination file system.

i read about the problem alot and my hard drive is already in NTFS (so its not an ntsf/fat32 issue). The drive show s up as healthy when i use crystal disk, hdsentinel etc...

When i run a check disk on that drive, it starts fine (stage 1, stage 2 but then after a while i get this error message :

Stage 1: Examining basic file system structure ...

    944640 file records processed.

    File verification completed.

    140 large file records processed.

    0 bad file records processed.

Stage 2: Examining file name linkage ...

    1027948 index entries processed.

    Index verification completed.

    0 unindexed files scanned.

    0 unindexed files recovered.

Stage 3: Examining security descriptors ...
    Security descriptor verification completed.

    41655 data files processed.
    CHKDSK is verifying Usn Journal...
    A disk read error occurredc000000d
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream.

But i have 1 tb of free space still on that drive (its a 4tb drive)

I ve been searching and cant find a solution, its happened before and i dont remember how i fixed it (i think i gave up and just copied/formatted/copied, but im not sure its been a while).

Anyways thank you so much for solving my windows updates issues, system is working great!!

    Cheers!

    Re: [Win8.1Upd3 x64] WU error 800703F1

    Hi,

It seems there is a problem reading the drive, you should test the HDD using the manufacture tool if available.

Those tools most check only the SMART information provided by the drive itself, most of the time SMART only reports problems when its too late!

What is the brand of the HDD?
