    [Win7SP1Pro x64] Missing Packages Related to KB3123862 & KB3035583

    Hi All,

Got a system that's having update issues (the dreaded 80073712). SFC doesn't see any problems but CheckSUR found 13 issues. All of them relating to updates KB3123862 and KB3035583 which of course were two of the several 'wonderful' Get Windows 10 updates that were installed on peoples systems. Neither update is registered as being on the system any longer from what I can tell. They were installed however because they do show up in the installed update history. I don't have a working Windows 7 installation that contains said files and the updates do not have stand-alone installers to pull from so I'm hopeful that someone here at the sysnative community can help me out. Attached is a clean copy of the CBS logs (both sfc and checksur) which should contain everything you need to know what's up.

As a point of emphasis I would really hate to need to reload this system. There's a boatload of custom user settings on this system that I'd hate to have to mess around with migrating so I'll have no qualms if this takes a little time.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. We'll give it a go but those updates are a pain. Please start with the following.

    FRST Registry Search
    1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
    2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
    3. Select the Programs group.
    4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
    5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
    6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
    7. Copy and paste
KB3035583 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.

    8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please copy and paste the contents in your next reply. If for some reason notepad doesn't open the file should be
saved on your desktop named Search.txt.
    9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Done. I also took the liberty of doing the same for 3123862 but had to attach it since it's too big a log to put in a single post. I'm assuming these are keys that will need to be combed through and deleted?

    Thanks.

And yes we will be removing info from the registry. You have to be careful though as in some cases the key needs removed but in some cases only the value needs removed or you could orphan other packages.

The dialog box appears however it never actually populates. It just becomes a blank, white, empty box like so:

    [Win7SP1Pro x64] Missing Packages Related to KB3123862 & KB3035583-empty_dialog-png

From my experience, this is tied to the problem at hand. However it shouldn't affect the loading of the components hive? (Maybe it does, I'm not sure.)

Anyways, just to be safe I left the thing open for a few hours this afternoon before running the scan. Here's the result:

    Please do the following.

    Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
    1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
    2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
    3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
    4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
    5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
    6. SFCFix will now process the script.
    7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
    8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

As an aside, I never thought to use the powercopy script to change the directories of where the files are put. I've always just matched everything up manually. Learn something new every day.

Done x2. I ran it twice. The first time went through successfully and fixed the packages you posted in #16. This is the second log which still has some errors relating to 3035583 (the first run log had these errors as well).
