[SOLVED] Windows 8 will not update to 8.1 Dism displays Error 3

Here is my Computer Configuration
Custom Build Computer December 2012

Asrock MB Z77 OC Formula LGA 1155

I have Windows 8 PRO (OEM) with all updates installed with Windows media Center installed. My Windows Product key changed to the Media Center Product key when I updated to media center. My old product key for Windows 8 Pro Oem did not work when I upgraded to this bigger SSD. I had to use my Media Center Product key.

I have tried updating Windows 8 from the store about a dozen times. I have scanned the hard drive for errors and told it to fix them. Ran sfc scannow a half dozen times or so and it says it has found errors or corruption but could not fix them. I ran Dism and it comes back with error 3 - saying the system cannot find the path specified. The log file indicates that CMISETUP.dll is missing. I did a search of my windows drive and found a CMISETUP.dll and copied it to my Windows\SysWow64 folder. Ran Dism again and it was still missing. Ran regsvr32 and it had a pop up that the module "CMISETUP.dll" failed to load. Took ownership of the file with permissions with no luck. I ran the restore health with no luck then I ran below Dism command with my Windows 8 oem disc in DVD drive "I". No luck I probably did some other things to try to upgrade and/or fix the errors but I cannot remember all attempts. Sure would appreciate some help before the July 29th deadline for upgrading the OS.

I ran Sfcfixand and a popup said MSVCP100.dll is missing try reinstalling this program to fix this problem. it said Sfcfix could not run but it continued; here is the log file.

Let's start with a fresh DISM scan.

Right-click on the Start

button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
When DISM finishes scanning your component store, zip up and attach your CBS log to your next post:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

If the zip file is larger than 8MB, please use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Click on the Start

button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

chkdsk /f
Reboot
Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) from the link below:

Ok, looks like some corrections were made.

Please try browsing to C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-cmisetup_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_737dae25e2146713\ with Windows Explorer, then copy the cmisetup.dll file to your Desktop.

Let me know if you get an error message.

Had to search the directory for it; copied and pasted to desktop with no problem. No error message. The other day my log had indicated cmisetup.dll was missing so I searched and found it and placed a copy of it in my SysWow64 directory but the Dism log indicated it still couldn't"t find it.

Sorry for the delay.

Please try the following:

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
4. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
