I tried to go back to a previous restore point in May and that failed as well as other restore points on my laptop. After trying to restore I then tried all fixit solutions for windows 7 including the sfc /scan now. The error I kept getting referred me to the windows update readiness tool. I have 7 and 10 on a dual boot laptop. I use kaspersky internet security and I have no windows 7 disc as it was preloaded. I noticed that windows however will wipe out computer and restore to factory state as an option. I zip compressed cbs log which is 12 mb which will not upload in upload manger. Although you already ran it I would like you to run SURT again following the instructions below. Thanks. Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR) 1. Download and run the following file. 2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel. 3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running. 4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Then I ran windowsupdate diagnostic tool, Then I ran scanreg. Then I ran SUR tool. Then I ran windowsupdate tool several times until it fixed windows update. Turns out this is a major problem and I needed to fix as soon as possible and this is how I fixed it. Thank you for your support. I have now will make sure my restore points are in good working order as this happened to our desktop and our laptop in June both had same issues. http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/06/slow-windows-7-update-process-has-been-patched-by-microsoft/
