Aura, I tried many things to fix the Windows Updater, MS Fix-it Tools, wsusoffline1061, Readiness Tool, SFC /scannow, Check Disk, complete reset of the BITS and Updater on Windows 7, none of these things worked, system ended up checking for updates over 50 hours to no avail. Apparently the updater is now broken on a Windows Repair or clean install when it tries to synch with the MS servers. I ended up finding Microsoft's new Win 7 SP1 Rollup Update which includes hundreds of updates, it's like a Win 7 SP2 package. I installed pre-requisites for the rollup and IE11, then I ran the MS fixit tool again. The Rollup took 3 or 4 hours, then it kicked the Updater into downloading another 60 updates and it's now working!!! Yea! I hope this helps others with the same problem. It was a 5 day job to get this computer updated!!!
