[SOLVED] Win 7 upd failing with 8007370A, SFC /scannow fails, too

Windows 7 box, after spinning a long time, download/install of updates fails with 8007370A. SFC /SCANNOW fails with...

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

Yes, running SFC from admin prompt. Yes, trustedinstaller service is started. First round of updates worked. After reboot, Windows Update says additional critical updates are available, but now failing with 8007370A. SFCFix.exe log below. CBS folder = 100MB. Not sure of limit here. Will try to upload it. If I can't, I'll follow the instructions at the Posting Forum Instructions page. Many thanks!

Download the right version of SURT for your system;

Thank you for the log :) Seems like a lot of repairs were made by running it.

You have a lot of corruption in the Registry, let's see if we can find more corrupt keys/entries with SFCFix.

Good morning, Aura. I let SCFFix run most of the day yesterday. It never finished. I then stopped it, loaded up sysinternals Process Monitor, and started it again. Over the span of the first two minutes it created over 600,000 events in Process Monitor, mainly related to the registry, then it generated no more events. I let it go all night last night. This morning, still no new events from when it stopped yesterday afternoon.

Looks like I also cannot check it properly. While one of my colleague takes a look at your Hive, I would like to test your hard drive and RAM to make sure that your hard drive isn't failing, and your RAM sticks aren't faulty. Reason being that you have a lot of corruption in your Registry, and this often occurs when one of these two hardware components are failing. We'll start with the hard drive.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe;
Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Aura, this computer had a bad memory stick. It was receiving BSODs at least weekly. It was actually perusing this forum that led me to run Memtest86+ and discover the bad memory. That has now been taken care of and the memory is solid. I can run the HD test, but it will probably have to be Monday overnight. The HD is 2TB. Continued thanks.

Alright so we know that the RAM was bad and it could have caused the corruption (and it most likely did). We just have to verify the hard drive and we'll be good to continue with a fix.

Guess what? I had other things going on today, so I was able to run the HD test. It returned no errors. The output is attached. I'll await next steps.

All good :) Basically, you'll need to run a Repair Install of your Windows 7, because your Hive is too corrupt to be completely repaired. Running a Repair Install keeps your installed programs and files (althought I advice you to back-up your data just in case), and once done, you'll have to reinstall missing drivers (if there's any) and your Windows Updates.
