Programs started freezing, typical fixes like "sfc/ scannow" don't work (Win7)
So several weeks ago my computer started acting strangely. Microsoft programs like Word and Excel would suddenly freeze into a "Not Responding" state and never come out. They would freeze all on their own, without any input performed on them, and require to be started before freezing a few minutes later again. In addition, every time I tried to restart my computer, it stays on the "Shutting Down" screen and never comes out of it, requiring me to turn the computer off manually.
I've tried looking up help for these problems, but doing so leads me to solutions that don't work. As an example, I've heard that running "sfc /scannow" can help find problems, but when I try to run this in the command prompt (as an administrator), I keep getting the message that "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". I tried the very common suggestion of opening up services.msc and turning the Windows Module Installer to Manual and starting it, but that doesn't do anything. So now I'm at a dead end, and I'm hoping someone here can help me if at all possible.
I've run the SFCFix.exe program, and it didn't seem to find any errors:
