Another Windows update KB3000850 fails with error 800700a1

I've tried sfcfix, scan sfc, turning off windows defender, windows update troubleshooter, adding the system tools folder, using the stand alone installer, dism...scanhealth, dism...restorehealth...nothing has worked. Gets to 99% complete and then undoes changes.

Any help would be appreciated.

On a Dell Venue Pro 11 if that matters...

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Please run the following to get started here (you have most likely ran all these before, but we need to get them ran in this order to get the best results :))

SFC /SCANNOW

Right click on the

button
Click on Command prompt (Admin) => Press Yes on the prompt
Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

Right click on the

button
Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:

cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
```
Press Enter
Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

This is rather interesting, this is the first time I have seen this error without a certain file being corrupt!

Software Distribution rename

Click Start -> Type in CMD in the search -> Right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator
Entre in the following commands:
net stop wuauserv
ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
net start wuauserv

Once completed please try and run windows update again.

if WU still fails please run SFC /SCANNOW and upload a new log.

I followed the instructions above. Still failed to update. "We couldn't complete the updates..Undoing Changes...Dont' turn off your computer."

Two files were repaired which is a start:

Checking System Update Readiness.

Please navigate to C:\Windows\winsxs and copy any files with a similar name to pending.xml (e.g. pending.xml, pending.xml.bad, pending.xml_dfsadf78 etc.) to your folder on the Desktop [there may not be any, just if there are]. Then zip up this folder and attach it to your next post.

Rlick on the Start button -> click on Command prompt as Administrator
Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command
REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG QUERY HKLM\COMPONENTS >1&& notepad 1
Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with rest of the steps.

Please also export the following registry keys, add them into a zip and attach to this post:

Right click on the Start button -> Click on Run -> type regedit
Once regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\
Once selected, click File > Export....
Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
Name this file Update (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive
