In this case, you can switch it anytime (at least I can on my asrock MB and on my previous packard-bell/acer board).
Only gigabyte support (or some of its clients with a similar motherboard but with the same setting) can know it.
    Hey xilolee,

Yes they have email but it takes almost a full week just to get reply.
Then I send followup questions and wait many more days, so phone was much easier (except its almost an hour wait to get out of the que to a tech.)

Thanks for the info and help.
Just to be safe I will be cloning my drive c: just to be safe.
Then I will attempt the bios setting change, thou I will wait till after Christmas to do it all.

I will reply again after Christmas / Early January with the results.

    Thanks again for the help.
Have a Fantastic Christmas / Holiday Season

    Hey,

Yes I have sent emails and submitted tickets to Gigabyte.
They finally responded but simply dont understand no mattr how much i explain.
They told me it was a virus issue from when virus infected my c: drive.
I told them that is impossible as I did not put same drive in only the same model as i always buy 2 of everything so I have backups (for cheaper items).

And all other drives have been scanned by multiple methods and all drives are clean.
I even told them I am not installing items that were on the drives and download fresh links to new drive and then delete old files.

Anyways I am still waiting for further responses from them.
Just thought I would post to let you guys know.
    Thanks
    Fred

Re: [W8.1 x64] Format issue with HDDs. It works with USB, DVD, blu-ray discs.

You should only ask what that setting is, without explaining.
Example (because your English is better than mine, you can obviously change the words):

    Dear Gigabyte support,

in my motherboard BIOS, GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 4.0), there's a setting named/called OS type.
Currently it is set to other OS, and Windows 8.1 is installed in my machine.
If I change that setting to windows 8, do I need to reinstall windows?

    Regards.

    Hi,

Just for curiosity what are the options you have on the BIOS for the OS type?

    @SleepyDude

    The options are:
    - Windows 8
    - other
    - in other special cases, also Windows 8 WHQL is present. In GrenPa's case, this is not present.

I don't think there are other options, but let's see if GrenPa confirms or not.

    Thanks Xilolee.

I see its a Gigabyte thing Windows 10 USB not detected - Windows 10 Forums

Based on the description and settings its a shortcut to make it easy to auto adjust the options: CSM Support, Secure Boot and Secure Boot Mode.

Selecting Windows 8 and making sure the options are set to this:
    - CSM Support: Enable
    - Secure Boot: Disable

Should have the same result as OS Type = Other OS

There are two usb 3 drives listed but I think one is a mistake as it says xp when I downloaded it and i think the other is the correct one and is ver [V4.90A] so as i said i downloaded and ran the setup but my bios is still showing a much newer driver even if i tell it to check for new driver it stays with window assigned one.
You should try to install the USB driver that mention XP because its dated 2016/08/30 ignore the name, it includes drivers to all the Windows from XP to 8.1.

    Hello SleepyDude,

I will give the drivers a shot later today if I get back in time or Tomorrow and will reply again then.

But one more question before i leave would the USB driver also effect the eSata ports as they have problems?

    Talk later or tomorrow.
    Thanks

    Hey Xilolee,

I spoke to gigabyte again by phone and by email.
The reps say OS setting should not matter.
But they dont know why all my eSata and USB 3 ports would malfunction after the reinstall.
They said I could try setting to Windows 8 but said I might need to reinstall windows for the 5th time.

Also I was told by some Software companies I have to make sure i deactivate all my software as the change will stop software from working.
and then I could not reactivate it unless I had deactivated first.

I have been unable to do a full reinstall or cloning yet as been busy and lots of doctor visits which kept me offline for weeks.

    Talk Soon.
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hey,

Well I tried xp driver and it made no difference even after restart.
I just dont get it, to me to have both esata and usb 3 not work correctly baffles me.

I think I am going to give up and just get a new system.
i will use the old one/current one for storage.
I will have to save up for a few months as being on disability cash is very tight.

Thanks to you and everyone for the help.
    Have a great day.
    Fred
