    Frequent audio crashes

Hi need a little help if possible! (I'm hoping this is the right forum to post it on but I can move it if it isn't)

My laptop is running windows 8.1 pro. My audio is fine when I'm playing games but once I quit the game and the screen blacks out for a second (to refresh everything I'm assuming), most of the time my audio stops working. When i click the speaker icon and drag the pointer up and down, no sound is heard when I release it. There is also no indication that any music is playing even when I am playing it. I'll then go to task manager and restart the audio service but then it'll get stuck at "stopping". When i click the speaker icon again, it stays stuck on my screen and the troubleshooter pops up (by this time there is usually a red x on the speaker icon). The troubleshooter is useless and never fixes anything. When i go to control panel and go through the audio settings they tell me that I have no audio service installed (along those lines, I can't recall the exact words) when I actually do. At this point, even not only do i not have audio but youtube videos fail to play as well? The only way I can fix this is by restarting the computer.

Note that this only happens after I quit my game (though sometimes it only happens when I quit it twice. That is, I finish up for a while, quit, then come back and play again [the audio still works], then quit a second time [audio malfunctions and nothing can be heard/played])

Any help would be great. Thanks!

You appear to have a similar thread opened here - Laptop taking a long time to restart and shut down

Has the issue been resolved? If not, then please continue with the same thread, since it can become rather difficult with two open threads.

Well. I've been told that the restart time is normal so I guess it can be said that that issue has been resolved

Thanks, does the issue only occur after playing a certain game?

    Re: Frequent audio crashes

Have you checked in Device Manager for any warnings for the connected audio devices and controllers?

Have you tried using headphones and seeing if the issue still occurs?

No warnings and I've checked if they have any updates (windows has determined that the latest drivers are installed)
I always use headphones so those aren't the problem

Please give us the name of the game and try playing a different game. Just to eliminate the game as the culprit.
    Thanks.

It's Paladins. I play through steam.
Ive installed another game now and ive downloaded it through the microsoft store. it doesnt seem to cause any problems after i quit or anything. However, i have noticed that if i quit paladins once/twice the audio problem appears (nothing new) but i won't be able to load the new game either (it gets stuck) and i won't be able to play youtube videos too. so ill have to restart to get it all working again.

Please follow these instructions and upload the .zip folder which is produced - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista

Please ensure that you run the collection app just after quitting the problematic game.

Ok see attached. I ran the file once the sound problem occurs and my other game no longer works. I will restart now to fix these problems.

    Re: Frequent audio crashes

From reading a few different forums, it appears that a number of others have had the same audio issue with the game. Has there been any patches released recently?

I've found the message that may be appearing after the sound service has crashed:

    Code:
This computer cannot play audio because the Windows Audio service is not enabled. Use the Sounds and Devices Properties control panel to enable audio. No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
Here is some error messages related to the problematic game:

    Code:

I would suggest opening a thread on their bug reporting forum, it appears that the issue is likely to be related to the game itself - Bug Reporting

Oh right. I haven't really seen anyone complain about audio problems hm i assumed it was just me.
It's still in beta so patches are getting released now and then. In fact, I believe there's one today. In the patch notes they've mentioned a new 64-bit update (the game is currently a 32-bit version only) so maybe I'll have better luck then. Though previous patches have not fixed this problem so I assumed it was my laptop.

    Re: Frequent audio crashes

These kinds of problems are not uncommon with beta versions of software/games.

Let us know how it goes with the patch. Hopefully it should provide some stability updates.
