If you perform Clean Boot is it faster?

Re: Laptop taking a long time to restart and shut down

Let's get an accurate boot-up time.

Download this VBS Script; save to Desktop - http://www.sysnative.com/apps/bootspeed.vbs

    Close ALL windows.

    2x-click on the bootspeed.vbs file.

Answer YES or OK (I forget which comes up).

    Your system will then restart.

You'll see the same screen again - click on YES or OK.

Another screen will appear with your boot time in seconds.

    What was the reading?

Re: Laptop taking a long time to restart and shut down

probably not because its not like it takes a long time all the time. its just after i play a game and it crashes and everything starts going a bit crazy that itll take longer

Well. . . What did the VBS script show as boot-up time?

I would expect the system to take an extra few seconds if it did not shut down properly - but not much.

Mine was 177 seconds (2.95 minutes) -- that shocked me as I thought a core i7 should do better!

Hewlett-Packard ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC
    Intel core i7
    Intel64 Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~2401 Mhz
    4 cores
    8 threads (hyper-threading)
    16 GB RAM
    1 TB SATA
Windows 8.1 x64 (to be upgraded to W10 soon)
Furthermore, on the shut-down side of things, the system should be able to shut down (if so ordered to do so) within 60 seconds. That is what Microsoft set as the slowest possible time for a normal shut-down via SETTINGS -> POWER -> SHUT DOWN

    Regards. . .

    jcgriff2

p.s. Please run the VBS Shut-down Script if you have not already done so. Thank you.

this was again after my audio cut out and i had to restart to get it back. there was a red "x" on the speaker icon and when i clicked on it the troubleshooter came on and said it could not restart the audio

Re: Laptop taking a long time to restart and shut down

    2.73 minutes.

Yours is just a little faster than mine.

There is nothing wrong with that boot time.

It would definitely take longer to boot after a crash because the system did not shut down cleanly and items like the registry have to be reconstructed.
