Motherboard: GA-EP31-DS3L I've tried to install the drivers for the sound card but it did not solve the problem. I also tried on the default controller. But I still the same. I have no idea what could be wrong. Thanks for your attention and help.

Gigabyte shows the latest BIOS dated 5/2009 (that is pre-Windows 7 and is a beta version) - GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP31-DS3L (rev. 2.0) Did you run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant? http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=261871 Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ - Windows Help What OS were you running prior to Windows 8.1? I asked about the BIOS because when I upgraded my Vista laptop to Windows 7, I experienced crackling audio and the solution was an HP BIOS update. That same system easily upgraded to Windows 8, then 8.1 without any further issues. Regards. . . jcgriff2
