Re: System shuts down every ~15 min

I ran the laptop w/o the battery for several months (left it at a hotel) and this phenomenon still occurred. But I'll remove battery next time.

    WAT - 2 entries - coming up on 6-28-12 & 7-8-2012.

The last time I had problems = 04-25-2012 (this thread). The system has been 100% since.

I routinely validate - whenever I place a link in a post - (to test it)

Would that interrupt the WAT schedule?

Validation doesn't alter the WAT schedule as far as I know. I end up validating at least once a day for one reason or another, as well - and my next schedule is 11th June :) (I do notice that the TaskDeadline task has never actually run, though - I think that's there to check that the proper check has run, and force it to if not).
as far as I can make out, the 90 days back from your date would mean that the last time it ran was 30th March - which means that we can rule it out.

Battery issue ruled out JC if still ocurred during that time.

Anything in event viewer about WAT with dates sync?

    I would have thought not.

Re: System shuts down every ~15 min

John, I have to agree with the majority here. There is something running that you are unaware of. This does not seem like a hardware issue. HW problems are much more frequent and while they can be marked off on calender, the time between occurrence doesn't match up.

I vote for a thorough security check.

After that, back up your docs to an external, secure wipe and clean instal.

One more thought, do you have anything set to sleep(in power settings) every 30 days(720 hrs, 43,200 min)? PCIe? USB? anything?

Re: System shuts down every ~15 min

I'm planning on a reinstall. This system was originally Vista SP1 OEM and has numerous Windows 7 reinstalls. Takes <20 min via USB.

No specific devive is set for sleep; OS power settings = default

Re: System shuts down every ~15 min

Had a quick look thru one of the zips i saw lots of old .dll files from 2003 onwards using microsoft shared and eset .dlls as old as 2009.
they probably have no baring not sure.

I noticed an unhandled exception event in winlogon not sure if it could be related.

ekrn.exe eset service had a lot of hangs and some crashes and crashes in windows live and outlook and divx as well which amy be ralted with ekrn.exe again unsure just observations.

But i see you are going to re-install which will eliminate a software issue.

Do you use secunia PSI to keep programs updated be a bit wary i had crashes in Windows Live mail unable to start think it may have been due to an incorrect upate applied from secunia not 100%. But a sysytm restore sorted the problem and i di not allow update from secunia to Wlm after.

Yes, reinstall will occur... someday! The system has been running great - no problems at all.

Secunia only notifies if there is a security update, not a program update. Personally, I prefer the online version but it does require that Java be installed: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/

I've never heard of it before.

(Please don't tell me I have it installed!)

    THANK YOU for the help.

Yes realise you are a beta tester for eset as with all beta's as you know bsod's can occur and left overs may interfere evn with production.

I have retail SS5 and there is an option to update with pre-release updates which are beta and may not be stable.

The winlogon event may be something or nothing may be worth taking another peek and delving.

Cant remember seeing secunia you would know as it runs in the background in sys tray in task bar.
It is used to patch programs but some patches may include cosmetic or feature upgrades along with security fix.

Like i say i only took a quick look.

If i get some time i may do a bit more delving.

Glad it is running well John.

Verify which Java version you have and whether it needs updating from link below:

You're better off without Java. An old post but still fits: Do You Need Java?

Yeah - sometimes a screen comes up at a site saying it needs Java; I go elsewhere.

Are you due for the shutdown to occur again or did we miss it?
