    Windows 10 Start Menu Layout

I have been tinkering with my Windows Install some more on one of my spare drives, and I was able to get the Start Menu closer to what I have it like, on my boot drive. I plan to do a format and install on the boot drive, sometime this week. I figured I would ask ahead of time how to get more like what I have now. I think after that, I should be done with setting up Windows the way I like it. There might be one more thing, but I will tackle that later on. I plan to make a Ghost Image of my upcoming new install, once all my drivers, programs etc are loaded up. That way, I have a clean install to go back to. All I have to do is update the drivers, and programs.

Below is how I have it on now, on my main boot drive.

Below this, is basically how it looks on my other drive. I have the area's in question highlighted in red. Where the arrows are pointing, I would like that area, to look like the red boxed area, in the above picture. I hope I'm making sense here.

In Settings, go to Personalization > Start > Choose which folders appear on start, uncheck everything but File Explorer and Settings.

I will test it out later, but believe they are already checked off, with everything else unchecked. I want it to actually say "File Explorer and Settings" in the Start Menu.

    Not sure you can.
That (first picture) seems a previous win10 version.
If I understood you, you'd like those (power, settings, all apps, file explorer) expanded to the menu bottom, like if it were WinXP/vista/7.
(Maybe it could be possible configuring the start menu xml file...)

Hmm ok. I guess I will see how it plays out when I install. I used the media creation tool, to make a new bootable USB. So I'm going to asume it's going to install the newest version for me ?

The MCT will upgrade your OS to the newest Windows 10 version, 1709, with which it is not possible to show text near the icons.

I don't understand why they would remove that, but ok.

Just an assumption, but if I had done it it would be to save space to make room for the the list of apps.
