Windows 10 Loaded To Desktop, and Flashed on and OFF. Cannot now boot.

My main 120 gb SSD drive was filling up. I downloaded Macrium to create a disk image. When I restarted to install the program,
it would only boot to the desktop but not completely, and it would flash the desktop on and off. I thought that it might be due to
the fact that the hard drive had reached its capacity, so I copied drive to a larger 240 GB SSD that I purchased, however I still cannot
boot the computer from the new drive that I copied the original files to. I tried safemode, I tried the system repair, I tried booting from
    the C prompt.
I did install a fresh install onto the original C: drive that I was having a problem with after I had copied the complete contents of that drive
onto the new SSD. I would like to be able to restore that drive so that I don't lose all of my programs and apps that I had on the original drive.
I also tried to restore to an earlier working date, however there were no restore points on the system.

    What can I try next.
    Thanks.

    Hello and welcome!

To make things a bit clearer,

The OS worked on the old drive, you cloned it to a new larger drive now you cannot even reach Windows, or do you get to the Desktop with the new drive as well?

Are there any error messages when you try to boot from the new SSD?

Have the boot files been transfered to the new drive?

    Hi,
I'm going to need more details. Are there any messages/errors on the screen?

How exactly did you copy the files from the 120 gb SSD to the 240 gb SSD?

i.e., what method or software did you use?

Re: Windows 10 Loaded To Desktop, and Flashed on and OFF. Cannot now boot.

I have to make a correction. My original C drive is the one that would not boot. So I copied that drive to a 160 external spinner. I installed the new 240 SSD into the computer and installed a fresh Windows 10 install to the new drive so that I had a computer. My directory then showed all three drives in the system. I believe I just copied the C drive and pasted the whole drive onto the 160 GB spinner. I didn't use any software to transfer that over, just copy and paste.

That is not the proper way to do that. In order for your computer to be bootable, you have to clone the drive via a software like Macrium Reflect/Acronis True Image and such. Of course, the source should be bootable in order for you to have something to copy FROM.

What can I do next. Anyone know how the reimage program works. Would that restore my Windows files and make it bootable?

Re: Windows 10 Loaded To Desktop, and Flashed on and OFF. Cannot now boot.

    Hi MrMoneyMaker,

Your safest bet is to continue on your fresh installation. You have to reinstall any app that was previously installed.
The changes you would have to make, in the registry, to recover 1 program is for many not worth the risk, 1 tiny mistake could end up in the system being unbootable once again.

Reinstalling the apps is guaranteed easier than attempting recovery, mainly because it saves you a lot of time.
