I have ran windows update and it downloads Vista SP1. It takes me to the welcome to the Windows Service Pack 1 screen. I agree to the terms and it quickly says it installed. A little while later it downloads the update again. Please help!!!!

The hotfix finally installed. I ran windows update and it still won't install Sp1 correctly.

Did you reboot after the Update readiness tool? It doesn't say to, but you must.

Next you can try the full file download of SP1 (Vista) Found here:

Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (KB936330) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Make sure to run it with elevated privileges from safe mode.

If it completes in safe mode, reboot to normal mode and install it again (This is a Microsoft recommendation...not sure why)

If it fails again, we will have to take a look at your %windir%/logs/cbs/cbs.log

%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

you may also want to attach cbs.log

zip them both up and put them somewhere we can get to them...
