Hello,

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been trying to resolve this for months and tried.... every online solution that I could find. Nothing has worked.

I have had all sorts of different error codes over this time (the most recent are 8e5e0147 and 80070490). Ran sfc scan recently and it said it found problems it couldn't fix but when I opened the file, nothing wrong appeared.

Hello Yogi and welcome to the forum.

Can you please run Windows update, let it fail, then upload the two logs please?

Also what are updates that keep on crashing?

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Windows Update Log

  1. Click on the Start button -> Inside the search box copy and paste the following command
    cmd /c copy %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.txt"
  2. Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your response and sorry for the delay in my response.

I tired to install one important update (update for vista KB3013410) and got error code 80070490.

Here are the two files - View attachment WindowsUpdate.txt and Download cbs.txt

(Strangely enough, many updates that I have been trying for months and months, seem to have finally installed a couple of weeks ago. I must have triggered or reset something that made something work).

Ta!

Hello again,

I am really sorry for the delay here, your thread got missed :( Do you still require assistance with this error?

Alex

Hello again,

Can you please run the steps again from post 2 (Here) but this time pleas eupload the files to OneDrive/DropBox my antivirus doesn't like the other site.

Thanks Yogi.

SURT can be a pain to use, it doesn't always want to repair things!

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
-Any other files that start with the word COMPONENTS
-Or any files that have a similar name to COMPONENTS (it could be spelt different, have a number, a symbol etc)
If you find any please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste all these files into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder -> Please name this zip file to COMPONENTS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "COMPONENTS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
Once done, upload them for me to analyze. The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

Hi GTP,

I have tried a few different things, but COMPONENTS refuses to copy, as it says it is being used in another program / elsewhere.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks...

Hi Yogi,

Sorry for the delay, I have just returned from my holidays.

Where you able to get the COMPONENTS hive copied? If not click on the start button -> in the search box type in RegEdit.exe -> right click on regedit.exe and choose run as admin -> Expand Hkey_Local_machine can you see something called COMPONENTS?
