Hello,

I'm running Windows 10 and my problem is that windows update gets stuck at "checking for updates...".

I tried the windows troubleshoot program for windows update without success.
I tried "sfc /scannow" with the result: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
I tried "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" with the result: Error: 14098
I also tried the DISM command using a Windows 10 ISO as a source for install.wim again with the same result.

I do not want to resort to a Windows in-place upgrade since I don't want to set up all installed programs again. Furthermore, -apart from windows update- the rest of the system works fine.

Any thoughts or recommendations are welcome.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. It appears you have some registry corruption.

Code:
2017-02-04 20:11:36, Error CSI 00000004 (F) Invalid attribute name found: [l:12]'versionSckpe'[gle=0x80004005]

Please start with the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.
