Hello, I stumbled upon this website as I searched wider for solutions to fix this problem, it seems to have helped many, so here I am.

my windows update will not install update KB3040272, every time giving me this error 80073712, following online support.

My computer run on windows 7 family premium 64 bits service pack 1
it's an Acer Aspire 8735 with a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6600

I have done many things, here they are:

-After doing full scans with Avast free anti-virus and Malvarebyte, then I have uninstalled both. Using Msconfig to reboot with only microsoft services and no other programs at startup.

-I did I scandisk of my HHD after a reboot and before startup, using the standard method via the drive's property window. A single cluster error was found and repaired.

-I brought up a command window, run as administrator and typed: sfc /scannow
Severals errors were found and not repaired.

-I then went here:Windows Update error 80073712 - Windows Help
And followed the instructions, running the system update readiness tool succesfully installing an update. I have not noted the "KB" number of the installed update, I'm sorry.

- I installed and run SFCFIX.exe from this website several issues were detected and not repaired, here is the log View attachment SFCFix.txt

- I have also installed and run "tech utilities", from this website How To Fix 80073712 Error? it found 1606 "issues" and demands that I "register techutilities to automatically repairs".
This demand misspelling leads me to believe it is not something I want to do for the safety or my computer and I can only hope it did not infect my computer with anything, I have uninstalled it.

- Lastly, I had made a system repair disk after the first step mentioned above, I will let this procedure run overnight and come back to add the information on another post.

My CBS folder is over 3Gb uncompressed so I will wait for instructions before trying to submit it to this thread.

I have the possibility to update to windows 10, though I would rather fix all issues beforehand, unless upgrading would fix them.
I am also willing to do a complete formatting and clean reinstall of windows 7 or 10 if it would make my computer optimal again, but I would rather it be the last resort.

I hope it will not be too much of a bother, sorry for the wall of text.
Should you choose to try and help me with this issue, thank you for your time.
