[SOLVED] Windows Update Issue 2019 Server. Can't figure this one out.

I'm usually pretty good at fixing these, but i can't nail this one down.

Already ran:
sfc /scannow
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I've force the patch install too via Admin Command:
DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:windows10.0-kb5055519-x64_075404b22fd325768631d15699de8f6e6af5a352.msu

Had the same problem with last month's patch

I do not see missing files or mismatched versions of anything.

Can anyone assist with this?

So please use the instructions below:

Follow these instructions to install an update with DISM.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type CMD.
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following command into it, and press enter. (Leave the CMD window open!)

  • Now, download the following update (KB5055519) to: C:\WUTemp - Or copy this file from the download directory to C:\WUTemp. (Important!)

  • Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.

I have actually done this in a D:\Downloads folder already. More than once.

I'll try the C:\WUtemp if you think that would make a difference.

Export the Windows Update log
  • Right-click on the Start button and click Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards

  • Wait for the message "WindowsUpdate.log written to C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.log".
  • Attach the logfile WindowsUpdate.log to your next reply.
 
Okay, please run the following tool first and provide a copy of the COMPONENTS hive.

Step 1. Download
61f7aba7309a1-ComponentsScanner_Icon.png
ComponentsScanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click ComponentsScanner.exe and select "Run as administrator", click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop called ComponentsScanner.txt.
  • Post the logfile ComponentsScanner.txt as attachment into your next reply.

Step 2. Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

  • Open the startmenu and type the command cmd.
  • After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt and press enter.

Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.

  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that SearchReg.txt is saved in the same folder FRST was started from.
  • Post the logfile SearchReg.txt as attachment in your next reply.
 
I just want to mention that I think my issue may have started with Last months OS Patch (KB5053596). Notice (3) of these are showing with no Install Date.
I've already tried the command line to install this patch too, using the DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:<Cab file> command.

I think I made progress today. I found these two related posts and applied it.

Hey man, I had the same issue:

I removed all the packages in windows update that did not have any installation date.

Then I checked the Hive here :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\PendedSessionPackages
and deleted all subkeys (I had to give myself ownership first)

Than I change from 1 to 0 the "Exclusive" Key that was in :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\SessionsPending

Hi mate, FYI as I was on break, a colleague raised the issue with our vendor support.
Microsoft identified the cause was an Exclusive value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\SessionsPending was set to 1.
Changing it to 0 and manually retrying the MSU apparently resolved the fault on all affected servers.

I've reapplied the KB5055519 OS Patch.

So far this is the most activity I have had and it seems like the CBS Log is showing signs of fixing the Windows Update Information.

I'll keep you posted.
