Having issues installing the KB4074598 Security Rollup for Windows 7 SP1 x64.

I've tried using the Windows update Troubleshooter, manually downloading and installing, and several other steps I found in troubleshooting threads on this issue.

Still getting the error, and I can't seem to figure it out.

I've run SFC, CCleaner, etc.

At this point, I'm at a loss, and any help would be appreciated.

By the way, this is giving me issues on a fresh install of Windows on a brand new Crucial MX500 500GB SSD.

Okay, so I ran through those steps, one by one.

Still having issues, from what SFCFix says, I have 12 SURT corruptions, none of which were fixed.

Thanks in advance, and if anyone out there is willing to give a little more info... I'd love to learn what to look for in the log files, and how to figure this out myself if it ever happens again.

Here's a dropbox link to the Zip file containing the CBS directory and the SFCFix log file.

SURT errors can be ignored as they are related to Avast and that is a known issue and it is benign.

Please attempt to update again, and when it fails, attach a fresh CBS.log.

As far as interpreting the logs is concerned, that's not something you can do alone. There's a private academy here every one of us has to go through to learn all of that.

Thanks for the quick response.

I went through the update process again, and after failure, uploaded the CBS.log file.

I understand it's an involved process, just like to learn how to do things.

I'm a hardware-focused tech, and my software knowledge is a bit lacking.

Yes, KB4054518 is listed under 'Installed Updates'.

Installed on 3/12/18, the day I setup Windows on this PC when the new SSD arrived.

Same Error number, and here's the log.

Should I keep trying it? Or wait for instructions.

Don't want you to have to waste time telling me to do the same thing over and over.

I do appreciate the help, this is rather more involved than I'm used to... Would just re-install, but I've been told, 'If it doesn't work this time, I'm just going to get rid of the computer'.

Had several re-installs on this PC lately over HDD issues, drive failures, and now the SSD and update issues.

It's no problem for me. I just wanted to let you know it will take a while.

That's fine, to be clear, I'm re-downloading the .cab file each time I do this, not using the one I previously downloaded.

Same error again, 0x800f081f

Latest CBS.log in a zip.

Same result, if it helps at all, the progress of the install stops at 66.1 to 66.6% each time, and gives the error.

New CBS.log file.

Should I be restarting between attempts? I haven't, because I didn't see the required messages.

Nope. You're doing it perfectly.

Tried again, same error.

Full disclosure, I've been jumping around to other posts, trying to learn a bit.

Before this last attempt, I checked Device manager, and noticed a missing driver.

Happened to be the Asmedia USB 3.0 hub driver, so I installed that, and uninstalled Avast, just in case.

I performed a restart, then proceeded with the latest file download and install attempt.

Just in case that makes any difference.

That's good, but that would have manifested differently. Usually with reverts on configuring.

Similar result, new log file. Dropbox - CBS6.zip

Are you editing the new file, to include a line to delete a previous rollup?

Looking into Windows Update, it's seeming to step back the monthly available update for Windows.

Also, I've noticed the file slowly increasing in size from previous versions.

If it's a simple as digging through the Windows update rollup listings, and uninstalling them one by one, I could probably do that.

I'm curious, in the many years I've been building computers, I've never run into this kind of issue with Windows Update.

I wouldn't mind some info on this Academy, if there is a possibility of entrance.
