Hi Sysnative,
I need help with a Windows Update problem - error code 0x800700c1
The PC runs Windows 10 Home version 21H2, OS build 19044.1586

I have had this problem for 2 years but haven't given any thought until some of my programs stopped working a month ago. I have done all the instructions from the procedure, which I will post, but I have also tried to reinstall Windows 10 with the Media Creation Tool and upgrade to Windows 11. These both failed, and I've looked over countless forms on this website. I was hoping you could help.

The issue currently is that I cannot update to the latest version of Windows 10 and the error code that comes is 0x800700c1.

I have already done the following as indicated in the forum posting instructions

Step 1: Run SFC Scan
This happens when I run it in the command prompt with administrator privileges.

Code:
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

Step 2: DISM
an error 0x800f081f comes up with a description of the source files not being found

Code:
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

Version: 10.0.19041.844

Image Version: 10.0.19044.1586

[==========================100.0%==========================]

Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.

Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Step 3: ComponentsScanner
I have attached the file with the document that comes up with it.

Step 4: Export the CBS folder
Done and also attached.

Thank you for taking the time to read and look at this.
Please let me know what I can do to fix this issue!
Thank you.

Hi @lordblazer,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Here's the first fix.

Step 1. Download
67139f7e69a58-SFCFix-ico.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Hi,

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.
