I have been experiencing a variety of computer errors lately.

1. BSOD crashes, apparently fixed with Sysnative help. Driver Verifier program found something that had to be removed.

2. Firefox address hijackings due to extensions bringing me to DNS Solution Yahoo Error Handler and to a Garmin sales page. The way I discovered this problem was, I found i could not get to the "Manage Attachments" box on Sysnative, but was sent elsewhere instead. I researched and fixed that not using Sysnative.

3. Windows update problems -- the reason for this posting.

I have attached the CBS folder

Thanks much for any help you can provide. Thanks for even reading and looking into this for me.

Re point #2, in previous posting: Actually, the BSOD crash problem was NOT resolved. I have updated my postings in the BSOD forum. Al C.

Hi Al,

Your CheckSUR log is showing a lot of errors on your computer:

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 16102
 Found 25771 errors
CSI Missing Deployment Key Total count: 2737
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 1
CBS Watchlist Package Missing Total count: 16369
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 6664

I'm really sorry but this is far too many to fix - and even if we did fix all of these then I suspect there would be a lot more errors surfacing as well. I think your best bet is to attempt a repair install:

There's a good chance it will fail though, in which case your only option is to do a clean install. It's a lot easier than a clean install so it's worth a try first though :)

Re running a repair, I do not have Windows installation disks.

What I have is something I created per instructions from HP when i first set up my computer: Repair Disk Windows 7, 64ibit.

I also have a Drive: Factory Image D, which contains a partition that says this when I look at it on my file manager Hp Recovery Partition. This area of your hard drive (or partition) contains files used to perform a system recovery.

How do I proceed using the repair disk, if that is possible?

Thanks again for your hand-holding. I don't want to make any drastic mistakes.

Two points of concern:

1. My computer is a desktop, yet the "How to perform an HP system recovery" document cited above says it pertains to notebooks.

2. Is it sufficient to do a backup using the windows feature: control panel/system & security/backup & restore/ to an external hard drive?

Thanks.

Sorry about that! Here's the correct link:

Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) | HP® Support

Yes the Windows Backup & Restore tool is perfect. It backs up all of your libraries (Documents, Pictures etc.) but make sure to manually backup any files you have placed in unusual locations as these won't be copied. If you're unsure whether a file will be backed up or not, feel free to ask - better safe than sorry :)
