Hello again :)

I am going to ask someone else to see what they can suggest. You actually have quite a common problem, unfortunately, I have never been able to work out a fix. Maybe, just maybe, he'll know the answer :)

Hi, thank you Richard, let's hope there is a cure. I have googled the error code and noticed I'm not the only one with this problem, however I have not come across a soloution on the web either.

Bad news I'm afraid

Unfortunately, it appears that your IE installation troubles aren't really over. It appears that they are actually the cause of the SP1 pre-installation components failing to install, and there are currently no tools which can detected this sort of corruption. I'm really sorry, but I no longer think this is fixable, as I just am not able to get a marker on what's corrupt - it literally could be anywhere

My only remaining suggestion would be an In-Place Upgrade: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-install-windows-windows-7-windows-vista.html

I'm really sorry it came to this.

Hi Richard, thanks for getting back to me. No problem, thanks for spending time on it, appreciate it. I'm not keen on doing the upgrade as I have the computer set up how I want it and worry that I won't have all the stuff or drivers back in place after the upgrade.

Hi Richard, finally managed to get sp1 installed! Thought I would post the method here in case you have anyone with the same issue:

I followed the advice on the youtube video below and although it took many hours it worked and kept all my data and programs. The only things I needed to sort was: uninstall iTunes (for some reason windows compatibility scan didn't like it) and had to uninstall and reinstall my bitdefender security as it was playing up after repair. I have now also got IE 11 installed.
