Windows Update fails to update. Upon execution, I receive the following error message:

WU Error.jpg

I use the Windows Troubleshooter to try and resolve the issue, and Windows claims to have repaired it, but the error persists. I began searching around and discovered the SFC /scannow option and ran it. Initially it told me that it detected corrupted files but that it was unable to repair them. As I researched further, I ran across the DISM method of repairing the problem. However, when I run it, it would continually fail with an Error 14, which seems to indicate that my computer has insufficient RAM to complete the process (it is a laptop and is maxed at 3GB).

Upon searching further, I discovered this forum. As instructed, I have run the SFCFIX application. The results of that are:

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2016-04-01 21:16:51.894
Microsoft Windows 8 - x86
Not using a script file.

AutoAnalysis::
FIXED: Performed DISM repair on file I386\CNBJ2530.DPB of version 6.2.9200.16430.

SUMMARY: No corruptions were detected.
AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.

Successfully processed all directives.
SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro has completed.
Currently storing 0 datablocks.
Finish time: 2016-04-01 21:53:49.627
----------------------EOF-----------------------

However, WU continues to fail. I have followed this up with another execution of sfc /scannow and this time it indicates the following:

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Even though it claims to have successfully repaired something, yet still WU fails with the same error message. If I rerun SFC, I get the same message. If I rerun SFCFix, I also get the same message. I am attached the .zip of my CBS log for reference.

Help?

Thanks,
Lee

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named LiquidTension. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hello,

The logs indicate your Operating System is cracked/pirated - this would explain the issue you're experiencing with Windows Update.

If a repair shop or similar installed the Operating System, I suggest taking the machine back and demanding installation of a legitimate copy of Windows. If this is not the case, I recommend formatting the machine and either installing a legitimate copy of Windows yourself, or looking at a free alternative such as one of the many Linux distributions.

You can read about the risks of using cracked software below:

Hi Lee,

You're quite welcome. Good luck with resolving this issue.

Take care,
Adam
