For about three weeks I've been trying to install Windows Update KB5051974 on Windows 10 Home version 22H2.
The update begins fine, restarts at around 30% complete, after restart proceeds to 96% complete but then says it cannot complete and reverses the attempted installation. In the Windows Update interface it reports error 0x800F0922.
There is no anti-virus software running and previously there were no issues with Windows Update.
Before this evening I had tried:
Here's a section of my CBS log from earlier this evening, with the error that had persisted in the weeks since the update was released:
Ultimately this results in a "Failure will not be ignored" message in the log. Using the SysNative tutorial thread and the related earlier troubleshooting thread, I was able to identify the related registry key in "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks" for the task that had failed and the associated registry key in "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree" for a task identified as "\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Schedule Scan Static Task", which had a matching GUID.
I deleted this problem key (under "TaskCache\Tree") and re-ran the KB5051974 update installer. It now fails again at 96%, apparently the same way as before, but the "0x80004005" error now initially appears together with a different error message in the CBS.log:
Again [gle=0x80004005] is then logged repeatedly until the "Failure will not be ignored" message, just as it was before.
This error has also been reported here at SysNative in a different thread that seems to be about the same Windows Update, but the steps taken to resolve it are not described. A configuration file has kindly been provided but I am already somewhat out of my depth here and am not sure how that file might have been customized for the other user's PC, so I would be grateful for any pointers on how I might next move forward based on the situation on my own PC.
Immediately before creating this thread I followed the steps set out here in the SysNative Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions and made a zip file of the CBS log directory at that time, before attempting the update installation one more time, and then made a second zip file of the CBS log directory immediately after that attempt. Both zip files are attached. If the tools need to be run a further time, following an attempted installation, please let me know and I will do that and post the logs again.
The system language for this machine is Japanese but as far as I can see the log files in the CBS directory are all in English (please do let me know if there is any Japanese, or any that gets in the way of looking at this).
Thank you very much indeed for any assistance or guidance you are able to provide.

Before this evening I had tried:
- The frequently recommended troubleshooting tools (DISM, SFC /scannow etc.) and the Windows Update troubleshooter
- Some deletion of staged packages and task clean-up based on a report of a similar issue, but wasn't able to complete all the task clean-up steps
- Clearing down disk space (even 30Gb free isn't enough)
- Downloading the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and installing it manually
- Reformatting the EFI boot partition (which is 500Mb)
